Since the end of 2002 all helicopters which are flying for Dutch Offshore Companies are provided with LAP's (Lifejacket Airpocket Plus), also a SHARK product.
Every passenger going offshore is wearing a LAP over his survival suit.
The LAP exists of a Lifejacket and an integrated breathing-system.
The Lifejacket has a manual control to protect itself from inflating in the helicopter during a crash, this would hinder evacuation.
The Lifejacket has to be inflated after abandoning the helicopter.
The Airpocket activates itself (can also be done manual) once immersed in the water.
This will happen in case of emergencies when one can not abandon the helicopter in time and one is still in the cabin.
The Airpocket provides extra oxygen – about 3 to 4 minutes – to give more time to abandon the helicopter.
